153 entries on Billboard’s Hot 100, seven #1 albums and a rabid fanbase, Drake is the hottest name in music. Point blank period. Let’s explore the why. Why is he so successful? Why has his music swept over the nation like a cold front in December? If you ask this question to ten different people, you are likely to get twelve different answers. Here is another answer: America’s 45th president is a contributing factor to Drake’s success.
Name a group of people and President Trump has alienated them: Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, Gays, Democrats, Republicans, poor people, rich people, the Obamas, the Clintons and most importantly (for the sake of this article), women. I have lost count of the number of times women have hit the streets protesting the president. Trump’s brazen misogyny has turned off more women than a guy with bad hygiene. As lesbian relationships continue to rise, it’s clear that women are starting to feel a certain way about men these days, thanks in part to Trump. People tend to go from one extreme to the other. Drake is the polar opposite of President Trump. Soft spoken when he needs to be, not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and he never holds a woman’s emotions against her. Issa from Insecure says that Drake “just gets us”. Not only does he understand women, he respects women. He has a great relationship with his mother and you haven't heard too many of his exes call him out publicly. Drake’s lyrics lack the misogyny and smugness that oozes out of every tweet from Donald Trump. Other than this isolated moment, Drizzy steers completely out of the political arena, which is divisive and exhausting for his female fanbase. The more women become disgusted by President Trump, the more they will flock towards one of Canada’s greatest exports, Drake. Photo from JustJared.com
