How Do We Expect Boys To Become Men When We Glamorize Feminism So Much?

We are in the “Era” of many things: the Era of Trump, the Era of Diversity, the Era of Cannot-say-anything-without-someone-being-offended-and-going-to-social-media-and-complain. The country is also in the midst of another era, that is potentially crippling to the country’s male youth: the Era of Feminism.

Let’s first start with the obvious: fathers need to step up to the plate more. Fatherless children (not just boys) are twice, even three times, as likely to drop out of school, become trapped in poverty, be in abusive relationships, and on and on and on. Perhaps the sad state of affairs when it comes to masculinity, especially in Black households, would not be if fathers took more responsibility for their offspring. Instead, boys take to pop culture and entertainment to learn what it means to be masculine. As we all know, singers and athletes do not make the best role models.

Pop culture has become absurdly feministic in the past decade. Music, as a whole, is geared towards women. Drake, and his minions of copycats, is the most notable example. The more his music sells, the greater his influence. This is where the domino effect takes place: labels influence the artists, who influence the DJs, who influence the radio stations, who influence the consumers. Considering that the media constantly pushes images of guys dressing like women, and guys literally becoming women, it is easy to understand why young boys would have mixed signals about masculinity. Social media is just as much, if not more, to blame, where users proudly proclaim that it is okay to wear or do whatever you want. No one should put themselves in a box!

Another “phenomenon” spreading throughout America is feminist demonstrations. Slut walks have become as commonplace during the summer months as pride parades. They are supposed to be demonstrations of solidarity among women, who feel beaten down by the current political climate. Who is watching these marches of feminism? The young, impressionable sons of these women, who may mature into the ideology of “I should be like that”.

Scorned women want to tear down masculinity and rebuild it so that it correlates with their belief systems. How can we possibly raise the next generation of men, while tearing them down at the same time?
