It has been well-documented and oft-discussed: nothing makes it on WWE television without Vince McMahon’s approval. Enzo Amore winning the Cruiserweight Championship at No Mercy 2017, Vince approved it. Randy Orton kissing Stephanie McMahon on Monday Night Raw in 2009, Vince approved it. The beatdown Vince took from the Hart family at WrestleMania XXVI, Vince approved it. Taking that into account, you can logically come to the conclusion that nothing makes it onto a WWE video game without Vince approving of it.
Every year when Madden releases a new video game, there is hysteria among some NFL players as to what their ratings are. The same, possibly, goes on with WWE talent. You would have to imagine that game heads, like Xavier Woods of The New Day, were giddy with excitement when the final rosters were released. The difference is while the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could probably care less about Madden video games, Vince McMahon sees it as an opportunity to convey messages to fans and talent alike.
One man who Vince has been heavily invested in is Roman Reigns, who receives the game’s highest overall rating at 95. That is two points clear of two WWE living legends John Cena and Brock Lesnar, both at 93. Vince is (heavy-handedly) telling fans that Roman is the top guy.
Some wrestling insiders question whether Vinnie Mac is truly sold on Finn Bálor, considering his small stature and his heavy accent. While Finn is one of the higher rated guys in the game at 88, his Demon persona is fourth highest in the game at 92. Could there be big plans in the future for Demon Bálor?
There are eight wrestlers who have ratings of 90 or better. Along with the aforementioned Reigns, Cena, Lesnar and Demon Bálor, Goldberg (92), cover athlete Seth Rollins (92), AJ Styles (90), and Randy Orton (90) are among the game’s elite. The notable message here is how much AJ has won over Vince in his stay with the company thus far.
Braun Strowman is getting the biggest push of anyone on the roster this side of Roman. However, he is still very green in the wrestling business. With an overall rating of 88, he is among the highest in the game, but just outside the top ten, signaling that he still has much work to do to improve.
The overall average of the entire roster is 83.2. So wrestlers like Dolph Ziggler (83), Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows (83), and Xavier Woods (83) are considered to be average talents. Guys like Baron Corbin (84), Neville (84), Sami Zayn (84), and Shane McMahon (84) are considered to be slightly above average, while Big Show (82), Luke Harper (82), and Chad Gable (81) are considered below average talents.
The owner of the longest losing streak in the WWE, Curt Hawkins, is the lowest rated player in the game at 72. The Cruiserweights, also, have low ratings: Enzo Amore is the second-lowest rated male wrestler at 74, while current champion Kalisto, is a mere point higher at 75. Vince is clearly down on the Cruiserweight Division as a whole.
There is much to take away from the Women’s ratings. Asuka, who makes her main roster debut at TLC, is the highest-rated woman at 87. That is two points clear of fan favorite (and Vince favorite) Charlotte and current Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss, both at 85. Asuka has definitely caught the attention of the powers that be in the company. Naomi has also caught the attention of many, as she is also rated at 85.
Remember, the overall average of the roster is 83.2. Sasha Banks, who has been rumored to have tons of backstage heat, is rated as an above average wrestler at 84. Her close friend Bayley is considered average at 83. So is Nia Jax (83) and current SmackDown Women’s Champion Natalya (83).
Vince McMahon uses any opportunity he can to promote the WWE and get his message across to his company. WWE 2K18 is yet another example of that.
